Review of the Silhouette Curio

The Curio Silhouette has specifically been designed to fill in the gaps that are lacking in the larger machines.

This is the machine for you if you specifically want a machine that does embossing, cutting, stippling and etching on a smaller 8.5″ x 6″ base.

Feature Summary

Silhouette Curio Review

The machine is still very much loved by the crafting community due to the fact that it has so many unique capabilities.  We also love that the Curio comes with software that actually contains over 70,000 ready-made designs (which you can purchase for an additional cost).

What are the Cutting Dimensions?

In comparison to other similar machines, the Curio has a really small and limiting cutting base. Whilst most machines measure out at 12 x 12″, this machine only give you a small 8.5″ x 6″ base. This is of course due to the fact that it has been designed to work on smaller scale projects, however many crafters might find this size limiting.

The Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • The Curio has the ability to cut, sketch, emboss, deboss, etch and stipple
  • We love how fabulous this machine is when it comes to thicker material
  • Speedy dual carriage

Cons:

  • Cutting space is on the small size in comparison to other similar machines
  • Steep learning curve to figure out how the machine works
  • You will need to purchase additional supplies: the extra large tray (8.5″ x 12″), the deep cut blade, the stippling, and etching tool as well as the designs on the software.

Verdict

We absolutely love the Curio Cutting Machine as a companion to our favorite hobbyist vinyl cutter, the Cameo 3. It is a fabulous embossing machine, you can see how it compares against other machines on our embossing machine comparison chart here.

The machine has a lot to offer that other machines simply can't do, such as the ability to emboss, deboss, stipple and etch on thicker materials such as metal. Imagine all the incredible projects you can finish off with this machine!

It is however not our choice when it comes to vinyl cutting machines, so best to invest in both a vinyl cutter and Curio.

You can also purchase a Silhouette Curio bundle if you wish to save loads of money and grab some essential supplies and tools as well.
