This fun winter craft uses paper cups and simple folded paper to make a snow bunny that kids can make hop around.

Here's what you'll need to make your winter hopping bunny:

How to Make a Hopping Bunny Paper Cup with Kids

This craft is great for kids ages 5 and up. You'll want to help with cutting the cups and putting it all together.

Step 1: Prepare the Paper Cups

  • Take two paper cups and trim the rim edges off both of them
  • On one cup, cut it a bit shorter to the grey cup and then cut out a rectangle shape from the edge
  • Set the cups aside

Step 2: Print and Cut the Bunny Pieces

  • Print out the bunny template and cut all the pieces
  • Trace the pieces onto your colored construction paper (We used silver paint to paint on the white cardstock as we didn't have silver paper on hand)
  • Cut them out carefully

  • Draw on details like the bunny's face, eyes, nose, and whiskers using a black marker
  • Add details to the feet and ears as shown in the picture

Step 3: Glue Together the Pieces

  • Glue the pieces together as needed

Step 4: Glue the Face and Ears to the Cup

  • Glue the bunny's face onto the paper cup
  • Attach the long ears to the top of the bunny's head
  • Glue the tummy patch to the cup
  • Then on the cup with the cut out rectangle, glue the two paws on either side of this open section

Step 5: Add Facial Details

  • Glue on the bunny's eyes & nose
  • Use a black marker to draw the mouth, whiskers and eyelashes

Step 6: Create the Hopping Mechanism

  • Cut two strips of black cardstock

  • Glue the two corners together so you form an ‘L' shape

  • Fold the strips in an accordion or zigzag pattern, alternating the direction with each fold

  • When you get to the end, glue the end pieces together and cut off any overhanging bits.

Step 7: Connect the Cups

  • Glue the folded strips to your decorated bunny cup
  • Pop the other cup over the top of this one

  • Press down on the bunny and let it hop! The folded paper springs back and makes it bounce
