Here's what you'll need to make your fox:

Essential Supplies:

  • Two paper cups
  • Gray paint
  • Paint brush
  • White construction paper
  • Gray construction paper
  • Black construction paper
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • Printer
  • Free fox printable template

How to Make a Winter Hopping Paper Cup Fox with Kids

This craft is great for kids ages 5 and up. You'll want to help with cutting the cups and putting it all together.

Step 1: Prepare the Paper Cups

  • Take two paper cups and trim the rim edges off both of them – one of the cups should be shorter than the other
  • On one cup, cut 3 rectangles out of the sides as seen in the photo above
  • Then paint the cut two of the edges with gray paint to make the feet
  • Let the paint dry completely

Step 2: Print and Cut the Fox Pieces

  • Print out the fox template
  • Cut out the two face pieces from white cardstock
  • Use the silver paint to paint the larger piece in silver

  • Next cut out the tummy patch piece and paint it in silver paint as well

  • Once dry glue the two face pieces together

  • Glue the face and tummy patch piece to the paper cup

Step 3: Add Details to the Pieces

  • Cut out the face pieces
  • Use a black marker to add pupil to the eyes

  • Glue the pieces to the face on your paper cup
  • Use a black marker to add a mouth

Step 4: Create the Tail

  • Cut out the two tail pieces. Pain the larger tail piece with the silver paint and let it dry completely

  • Glue the two tail pieces together

  • And then glue the tail to the back of the paper cup

Step 5: Create the Hopping Mechanism

  • Cut two strips of black cardstock

  • Glue the two corners together so you form an ‘L' shape

  • Fold the strips in an accordion or zigzag pattern, alternating the direction with each fold

  • When you get to the end, glue the end pieces together and cut off any overhanging bits.

Step 6: Connect the Cups

  • Glue the folded strips to your decorated fox cup
  • Place the one cup over the other to finish your craft

  • Press down on the fox and let it hop! The folded paper springs back and makes it bounce
