Popsicle Stick Nativity Materials

Gather these supplies to create your Christmas nativity scene:
Materials Needed:
- Popsicle sticks (regular and jumbo sizes)
- Construction paper (yellow, brown, assorted colors)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Colored pencils or markers
- Nativity template (star and manger shapes)
How to Make Your Popsicle Stick Nativity
This craft is perfect for preschool (with adult help) and elementary children and creates a meaningful Christmas decoration.
Step 1: Arrange Popsicle Sticks for Stable Structure

- Take 4 popsicle sticks. Cut one of the popsicle sticks in half.
- Arrange them so that they will form the frame for the stable.
Step 2: Glue the House Frame Together

- Apply glue to the connection points where the popsicle sticks meet
- Press the sticks together firmly and hold until the glue sets (or use hot glue)
Step 3: Cut Character Pieces to Size

- Take additional popsicle sticks and cut them into 3 smaller pieces – 2 longer for the adults and one smaller for baby Jesus.
- Round off the edges of baby Jesus (this is a bit tricky and and adult probably would need to help with this).
Step 4: Create Nativity Characters

- Color the two taller popsicle stick pieces to represent Mary and Joseph
- Use different colored markers to create their robes and features
- Do the same for the shorter one that represents baby Jesus
Step 5: Create Paper Decorations

- Cut star and manger shapes from construction paper using templates
- Use yellow paper for the star and smaller manger base and brown paper for the larger manger base
Step 6: Add Mary and Joseph to the Stable

- Add Mary and Joseph to your stable. We positioned them so that they are slightly overlooking where baby Jesus will be.
Step 7: Glue the Paper Pieces

- Glue the yellow paper star to the peak of the triangular roof
- Then glue the brown manger to the yellow one and then glue it to the bottom of the stable frame.
Step 8: Add Baby Jesus at the Base

- Add baby Jesus to complete your craft.
