Gather these supplies to create your dimensional paper ornaments:

Essential Supplies:

  • Cardstock paper (kraft brown and white recommended)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • Pencil
  • Ruler or craft stick
  • Twine or string for hanging
  • Circle template or compass (for cutting uniform circles)

Step-by-Step Honeycomb Ornament Instructions

Follow these simple steps to create your 3D paper ornaments:

Step 1: Cut Your Paper Circles

  • Cut multiple circles from your cardstock paper in your desired size
  • You'll need around 25 circles per ornament for a full honeycomb effect
  • Fold each circle in half

Step 2: Understanding Your Glue Technique

Paper Honeycomb Ornament Step 1
  • To create the honeycomb effect, we need to follow a two step gluing guide.
  • See the half circle with the number one above. Take your folded circle and open it up. Apply a line of glue in the center of the opened up circle and stick the two sides together.

Step 3: Glue the Circles Together

  • So now you should have a stack of half circles that have been glued down the center.
  • To create the honeycomb effect, this time we will apply two lines of glue (as seen in the image above with the number 2 half circle).
  • So grab a half circle and apply glue in the 2 lines as per the example and then stick this to another half circle.
  • Repeat this for all your half circles. At this stage, check to see that your bauble is as full as you want it – you can always cut more circles and add more to create a more fuller look.

Step 4: Add the Twine

  • Apply liquid glue to the spine of your stack of half circles.
Paper Honeycomb Ornament Step 4
  • Cut a length of twine and fold it in half, knotting off the two loose ends to create a loop.
  • Glue this piece of twine down in the spine of your stack of half circles.
Paper Honeycomb Ornament Step 5
  • Then open up your half circles and bring them around the twine, gluing the two edges together (with the two lines of glue)
  • Now let it dry properly.

Step 5: Finish the Baubles

  • Monochromatic: Use all white or all kraft paper for a minimalist look
  • Mixed Sizes: Make ornaments in various sizes for visual interest
  • Colored Paper: Try festive colors like red, green, or gold
  • Patterned Paper: Use scrapbook paper with holiday prints for extra flair
