What Can You Earn with the Craftsy Affiliate Program

Here is a list of all of their fabulous affiliate payments. The cookie term refers to how long the system will give you a commission for the referral.

So for example, if the cookie is 30 days, and your reader clicks on your link today, but decides to close the browser (maybe they need to think about it), but goes back within the next 30 days and goes through with the trial or purchase, then you will still earn that commission.

  • 75% of first-time class or DVD purchases by new customers (30-day cookie)
  • 15% of class or DVD purchase by existing customers (5-day cookie)
  • 15% of physical product purchases by new customers (30-day cookie)
  • 4% of physical product purchases by existing customers (5-day cookie)
  • $5 Bluprint trial signup (15-day cookie)
  • $15 Bluprint monthly membership signup (15-day cookie)
  • $20 Bluprint 6-month membership signup (15-day cookie)

  • $20 Bluprint gift subscription (15-day cookie)
  • $15 for referring a friend who is accepted into the affiliate program

What we LOVE about the program is that you can simply encourage your readers to try them out FOR FREE and you will still earn money. Now if that referral ends up buying a membership within the cookie timeframe, then you will earn even more without even doing any work. Brilliant isn’t it!?

How do you Join the BluPrint – Craftsy Affiliate Program?

The BluPrint affiliate program is hosted by a company called Share a Sale. Share a Sale is an affiliate network that looks after thousands and thousands of affiliate programs of popular brands. Here are the steps to get you set up:

  2. Next, create a free account with the ShareaSale affiliate network (you might need to wait to get this approved before completing the last step)
  3. Lastly, register for the BluePrint Affiliate Program (I love to include a note about how I can be beneficial for a company in order to upscale my chances of getting accepted by a brand as an affiliate)

Smart Ways in Which you can Promote BluePrint?

  1. Have loads of tutorials currently on your website? Often readers will get more value out of a video in comparison to a step-by-step written tutorial. So think about where you can offer them a link to a class on Bluprint that will help them further develop a skill that you might have discussed in your tutorial.
  2. Think about trying out a class on Bluprint yourself and then writing about your experience in a review type post. If doesn’t even have to cost you anything, you can sign up for that free trial yourself and test one out.
  3. Next, Bluprint also has a fabulous section on their site that tells you which classes are currently doing really well – think about using this to your advantage!Bluprint affiliate
  4. Why not make a list of all of the FREE classes that are available at Bluprint for your readers to try out?
  5. Share some free patterns with you readers – readers love free things and it is a great way to get them hooked on to the site.
  6. Don’t forget to share your links on your social media as well.
  7. Send an email about Bluprint to your email subscribers
  8. Grab one of the banners from the Bluprint affiliate area and include this on blog posts or in the sidebar of your blog.
  9. Another great idea is to keep an eye on the coupons and promotion area of the affiliate section, where you will find even more fabulous ideas on how to promote current deals to your readers.

I hope I have inspired you to take the plunge and sign up for the Bluprint program. It really is a lovely and easy way to boost your income and because you are adding value for your readers (with free trials and free classes), it is an easy way to promote without coming across to ‘salesy’.

How To Use Transfer Paper With Vinyl

Is it a good idea to use transfer paper for vinyl projects?

Vinyl is used extensively to decorate and customize items of home décor, apparel, and accessories. Whether it is a simple T-shirt design or intricate patterns, vinyl is an effective medium to create it.

While transferring vinyl to your project material by hand is an option, not all of us are blessed with remarkably steady hands – that’s where transfer tape comes into the picture!

If you have not used it before and are wondering how to use vinyl transfer tape, let us tell you that it is reasonably straightforward.

With some practice, transfer tape can be a significant blessing for even the most complicated vinyl endeavors.

How To Use Transfer Paper With Vinyl

Creating designs and patterns with vinyl requires steady hands, patience, and right tools. We have described the entire process by breaking it down into simple steps, followed by a summary of the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about using transfer tape.

  1. Choosing the right vinyl

Vinyl can be primarily classified as heat transfer vinyl or adhesive craft vinyl. Each vinyl uses adhesion, be it heat transfer or adhesive craft. The only difference is that adhesive craft vinyl comes with a backing paper to preserve the adhesive whereas heat transfer vinyl comes with exposed adhesive (making one side of the vinyl duller).

Transfer paper is used with the adhesive craft vinyl, which comes in many varieties like:

  • Oracal 651 and Oracal 631
  • EV Series 51 and EV Series 31
  • Glitter and Transparent Glitter
  • Glow in the dark
  • InkJet Printable and Patterned
  • Reflective and Metalized
  • Fluorescent and Etched

Your project material and the design you are trying to create are the two essential factors that need to be considered when choosing the vinyl.

  1. Best transfer tape for vinyl

There is a wide variety of transfer tapes available in the market. You need to be aware of some of the most commonly used products and their characteristics. Transfer tape will be of help only if you choose the right kind based on your project. Transfer tape can be broadly classified into:

  • Opaque tapes – You should use opaque tapes when you do not have to line the backing paper of your vinyl with it. When you are trying to transfer an abstract and symmetrical pattern (like a circular design that looks the same from any angle), opaque tapes get the job done.
  • Transparent tapes – You should use transparent tapes if your pattern needs to be lined with the vinyl’s backing paper, for instance, to transfer font.
  • Paper tapes – You can go for a paper tape if you want a single-use transfer tape because it cannot be reused. It is ideal for transferring vinyl to curved objects like vases or glasses.
  • Regular tapes – This is the most frequently used transfer tape. You can use it with almost all projects and surfaces. We prefer using Oracal MT80P.
  • Strong-grip tapes – You will find the need for a super strong or sticky transfer tape only when you are using glitter vinyl. Other transfer tapes do not provide optimal results in glitter vinyl projects.

Apart from paper tapes, all other types of transfer tape can be used multiple times as long as the adhesive lasts. After each use, you have to put the backing paper on before you store it to ensure that the adhesive lasts as long as it should.

  1. Cutting & weeding vinyl

One of the most critical steps that precede the use of transfer tape is getting the design ready on your vinyl. You will need to use a cutting machine and a weeding tool to finish preparing your vinyl design.

Many machines are available for cutting vinyl, the most commonly used of which are:

  • Cricut Explore
  • Silhouette Cameo

Whether you use Cricut or Silhouette to cut vinyl, it only gives you an outline of your design which is far from complete. If you are using a font or an intricate pattern, you will have bits and pieces of excess vinyl that needs to be weeded out (for example, the empty spaces in the alphabets ‘d,’ ‘g,’ ‘e,’ ‘a,’ and so on).

A cutting machine is not equipped to weed out redundant pieces of vinyl. An efficient weeding tool is a must-have for creating vinyl designs. It is like a pen with a sharp point that helps remove the excess vinyl. You will be able to easily remove the smallest and thinnest pieces of vinyl with a weeding tool.

Once you are done with cutting and weeding the vinyl, it is time to bring out the transfer tape.

  1. How to apply transfer tape to vinyl?

First of all, you must cut the transfer tape slightly larger than your vinyl size to ensure that you have a margin of safety when peeling off the tape in case there are any wrinkles or bubbles. Line your transfer tape with your vinyl design and place it sticky side down. Your vinyl should be stuck on the backing paper when you apply the transfer tape.

Applying the transfer tape can be a bit tricky, and you want to avoid bubbles. It is preferable that you start from one side and gradually press towards the other end. You can use a roller or a credit card to apply pressure on the tape. We have found that using your fingers is equally effective once you understand how to put pressure on the tape.

The vinyl should leave the backing paper and get stuck on the transfer tape at this time. When you feel that you have accomplished that, it is time to turn the vinyl over and gently remove the transfer tape. You need to ensure that any small pieces also get stuck on the tape.

Take it slow and pay attention to ensure that the entire vinyl comes off with the tape. If needed, you may use a card to stick small pieces to the tape that may still be stuck to the vinyl’s backing paper.

  1. Applying the vinyl to your project

The final step in the process is applying the tape and the attached vinyl to your project surface. Make sure you line the tape if needed. Stick the tape to the project surface gradually from one side to the other. You may use a credit card to apply pressure. Again, it is vital that you remove any bubble and do not let the vinyl wrinkle up.

When you stick the tape to your project surface, you need to ensure that the vinyl gets transferred from the tape to the surface (just like it got transferred from its backing paper to the tape). Irrespective of whether you are transferring the vinyl to wood, metal, glass, or fabric, if you apply the right amount of evenly distributed pressure, the tape will get the job done.

When you feel that the vinyl is securely stuck to the project surface, you need to slowly peel off the transfer tape from one end to the other. While peeling off the tape, check that any small piece is not stuck to the tape still. If that happens, stick the tape back and rub the area with your fingers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do you need transfer paper for vinyl?

You may use transfer paper only with adhesive craft vinyl. Heat transfer vinyl does not require the use of a transfer paper or tape. Transfer paper makes the vinyl application process relatively straightforward, thereby reducing the margin of error.

  1. What is transfer tape?

Transfer tape or transfer paper is a medium used to transfer vinyl to your project surface. Most transfer tapes can be used multiple times. It comes in various styles to cater to different types of vinyl and project surfaces.

  1. What is Cricut transfer tape?

Cricut is a brand that is mostly known for its craft cutting machine. It is made by ProvoCraft and can cut various materials like fabric, paper, and vinyl. Cricut also offers different types of transfer tapes. Regular tapes and StrongGrip tapes from Cricut are widely used for vinyl projects.

  1. What is Silhouette transfer paper?

Silhouette, like Cricut, is a craft cutter brand that offers the Cameo, Curio, and Portrait machines. Silhouette machines are incredibly user-friendly. The brand also provides various transfer tapes that can be used for a majority of vinyl projects.

  1. What are the benefits of using transfer paper?
  • Using transfer tape allows for seamless application of vinyl. The majority of vinyl types tend to be very thin and can be challenging to transfer by hand.
  • Using transparent tape enables you to line the vinyl backing paper and project surface perfectly, preventing skewed or distorted designs.
  • Transfer tape facilitates better accuracy and productivity in vinyl projects, owing to its simple yet efficient use.

Final Thoughts

If you are a beginner, it can be tricky figuring out how to use transfer paper with vinyl. There is a definite learning curve with using transfer tapes, and you will get much better after some practice. The process of using transfer tape for vinyl projects requires attention to detail.

Sticking vinyl to some surfaces can be tricky, and you may have to try a couple of times before you get it right. If you take it slow and follow the steps we have explained, you should be able to stick vinyl to all kinds of projects.

Till next time, happy crafting!

Find below our steps on how to whip up these beautiful leaves. We will also share a few alternative ideas as well for those who don’t have easy access to fall leaves in their backyard.

Step 1:

You have two choices at this step. The preferable step is to take your kids for a walk in nature and to challenge them to collect as many fall leaves in different shapes and sizes as they can.

Alternatively, if you don’t have easy access to fall leaves, you can also create your own leaves from cardstock. In order to do this, you will need some fall colored cardstock, a fall leaves SVG file and a die cutting machine.

What to Do with the Leaves

Now that you have some beautiful decorative leaves, what can you do with them? We know that kids LOVE when we pop their art on display, so here are some ideas for you.

  1. You can punch a hole in each leaf, pop a string through the holes and hang the leaves up like a bunting for decoration.
  2. Give your child some glue (I know they love glue don’t they) and get them to glue their leaves onto a blank canvas, hang the canvas on their art display wall.
  3. On a similar thought, you could use the leaves together with your favorite photo from fall in a frame.
  4. If you are a scrapbooker, you can use the leaves or paper leaves as an embellishment on a scrapbook page about your fall memories. If you are using the real leaf, you might want to keep it away from your photos.
  5. Use the leaves to cover a book – could be a journal, a scrapbook album or a school workbook.
  6. Lastly, what about getting your child to do some paint handprints and decorate the page with the leaves and pop it in a keepsake album.

We hope your child will have a blast doing this easy autumn leaves craft. We would love to hear your ideas of how you used them, so please share your thoughts in the comments below.

How to Apply Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) on Leather

Cricut Iron on Vinyl on Leather

We often have readers who ask us whether vinyl will stick to faux leather – or genuine leather for that matter. It is actually really easy to use HTV vinyl on leather. You can either create your own leather product from scratch or buy a leather product from the store – such as a leather diary, a leather pencil case, leather vase wrappers etc.

I truly feel that gorgeous leather decals can just simply elevate any boring leather product to something luxurious, special and unique. So I wanted to show you how you can easily create some beautiful products with this simple technique.

Heat Transfer Vinyl to Leather Supply List

Find below the supply list and the steps to follow in order to add your own vinyl decal to leather.

Supply List:

How to Apply HTV on Leather

Find below our steps on how to transfer a vinyl design to leather:

Step 1: Design your Decal

Applying HTV on Leather Products

lThe first thing you want to do is to either upload a pre-made leather decal or to create one yourself. As I’m using a Cricut cutting machine, I will show you guys how some steps from the Cricut Design Space Software. The steps will be similar if you are using Silhouette Studio Designer or similar.

I purchase the valentine fox here and grabbed the vine leaves from here.

Measure out the area on your leather product that you want your design to fill. (I created an easy foldable leather wallet – instructions here).

Step 2: Mirro-Flip and Prepare to Cut

How to apply heat transfer vinyl to leather

Next click on “Make It”. Remember to mirror-flip your image seeing as we are working with iron-on vinyl. Select your iron-on vinyl from the material list and ensure that your standard blade is installed and ready to go.

Step 3: Cut Decal

Place your HTV FACE DOWN (shiny side down) on the cutting mat because we want to cut the backing sheet. Load it up in your cutting machine.

You can find out what the best heat transfer vinyl is in our guide here. I typically prefer to use Siser heat transfer vinyl, but for this project, I really loved the elegant feel of the Cricut Foil HTV range.

Step 4: Weed your Design

How to add vinyl to leather

Next, is the weeding. So carefully peel back the excess vinyl. And then use your weeding tool to pick out all the finer details in the design. Here is our tutorial on weeding vinyl if this process is new to you.

Step 5: Prepare to Press Vinyl to Leather Product

HTV on Leather

Carefully place your HTV leather decal on your leather product. I wanted to add my face and vine leaves on the flap of the wallet. Place your item on a heat mat (not as essential if you are working with a sturdy product such as a book).

I was really worried about the effects of heat pressing my leather. So to protect that beautiful bright red leather, I ended up placing some baking paper over the design. You can also use more official heat transfer protective paper for this, but I find that good old cheap baking paper works equally well.

Step 6: Heat Press Leather Design

heat transfer vinyl on leather

Heat up your Cricut EasyPress or Heat Pressing Machine. Check the temperature and time settings for your specific type of HTV Vinyl. You can usually find this on the info sheet that comes with the vinyl, or simply do a quick Google search to find the optimal settings.

Next heat press your design onto the vinyl. Please make sure to check out whether the design has properly melded with the fibres of the leather.

Cricut Iron on Vinyl on Leather

If you are happy, peel your HTV carrier sheet away. Check to see whether you should cold or hot peel as it will depend on your type of heat transfer vinyl.

And there you have it – a new beautiful iron-on vinyl decal on your leather product.

15. Loopdeloom Weaving Craft Kit

Loopdeloom is an award-winning weaving craft kit. The craft kit includes 120 yards of yarn and one spinning peg loom. The spinning peg design simplifies and quickens the weaving process. Although the manufacturer recommends Loopdeloom for ages eight and above, we found it to be a great DIY craft kit for adults as well.

You get a lot of flexibility and creativity with Loopdeloom. You can either use a single loom to create anything seven inches wide or connect multiple looms to create larger things like blankets.

We especially liked the versatile application of this craft kit as it can be used to create cell phone cases, scarves, skirts, baskets, headbands, and so much more.
